Clyde Canoe Club logo Club History

The club was formed in 1873 when a group of enthusiasts for the newly popular sailing canoes built a club house at Rosneath on the Clyde. In the early days cruises and exploration were the main activities, and members sailed their tiny craft as far as the outer Hebrides. A popular adventure was the "three lochs cruise" taking in the Gareloch, Loch Long and Loch Lomond with a portage from Arrochar to Tarbert. In 1878, the club-house was moved to a location at the southern extremity of Loch Lomond, and in 1933 a new building was constructed on our present site. Find out more here.
