- Dinghies, Flying Fifteens & Sportsboats
The main activity of the club is racing. Races take place every weekend from April through to October on courses around club marks or around the Loch’s many islands.
We currently have a large number and variety of dinghies, Flying Fifteens and sportsboats including the largest fleets of foiling Moths and Flying Fifteens in Scotland. The range of boats includes: -
• Hurricane 5.9
• Dart 18
• Laser 5000
• Musto Skiff
• International Canoe with & without asy spi
• Laser 4000
• International Moth (foiling)
• 18 ft. Skiff
Our dinghies and Sportsboats race under the PY handicap system and are split into 4 fleets, Fast (PY< 955), Medium (956<PY<1200), Slow (PY>1201) and the Flying Fifteens. The K6 and VXOne sportsboats race with the Fast Handicap fleet.
The Flying Fifteen fleet is particularly well supported each week and consists of a variety of designs with sail numbers ranging from the 4000’s right through to some older boats, but all compete on the same handicap.
All of Loch Lomond SC’s Fifteens are “dry sailed” and we have a small tractor to help with their recovery.
Outside of the normal racing season of April to October the Fast Handicap fleet usually run their own Frostbite Series for the hardier sailors.
For those that wish to learn or improve the club runs regular training sessions, see the training page for more details.
